York Hall, Bethnal Green, London, UK 30th September
2011 In a night of firsts, the first live show on BoxNation, a dedicated tv boxing channel, 456 on the Sky TV platform. The first show from Queensberry Boxing, the promotional vehicle of Francis & George Warren, Frank Warren's sons. And, finally, exciting, West Drayton, light middle, Steve O'Meara's first title fight, the much anticipated challenge for Ryan Tom's Southern Area light middleweight title. This bout, a Middlesex shoot out, between 2nd cousins by marriage, ended when Ryan Toms, Northolt's undefeated, southpaw, champion lost his title in stunning style by knockout. "Steve O" kayoed Toms in the first round, with a straight right followed by a picture perfect left hook. Tom's was counted out, as he did well to rise at the count of 9, however he was in no position to carry on. Steve O thus wins his first title as a professional & Toms tastes defeat for the first time, all in front of London's packed York Hall. " Steve O was so relaxed in the dressing room, in the warm up, I knew the flow was with him" Jim McDonnell, O'Meara's trainer and the former European Champion "Funny really, a pressure fight and I felt completely relaxed. I didn't feel the knockout punches land. It was hot in there so an early night was a bonus." Steve O'Meara |
